SHIFT PATTERN:        Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 16:30
SALARY/BENEFITS:  As per the United Nurses of Alberta Collective Agreement

SUMMARY OF WORK:

The Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse, under the direction/supervision of the Home Care Nurse Manager will provide the role of the expert clinician and resource person in the delivery of comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals and their families with end stage renal disease requiring peritoneal dialysis.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must act with integrity and treat all information regarding Clients, Physicians, employees, and financial and operational status of the organization as confidential
  • Participate in the maintenance of a quality improvement environment by adhering to:
    • Blood Tribe Department of Health Inc quality improvement initiatives.
    • Blood Tribe Department of Health Inc. policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance to provincial laws and regulations, and current standards of practice are followed.
  • Provide guidance, advice and direction to multidisciplinary individual/teams regarding peritoneal dialysis
    • Provide support through education and potential research.
    • Provide one on one support as required.
  • Confer with and share information with multidisciplinary health care team, as appropriate, to ensure continuum of care.
  • Cooperates and participates in the planning and implementation of joint projects, design review and evaluation of existing programs, and future planning as required.
  • Attends professional meetings, conferences and workshops to maintain knowledge base and skills, as program resources permit.
  • Demonstrate strong decision making/problem solving abilities.
  • Facilitate processes to ensure success with meeting Accreditation Standards.
  • Ensure monthly statistics submitted to Home Care Nurse Manager on a timely basis.
  • Participate in the process that will see input and feedback from clients/families with respect to quality service.
  • Submit budgetary items and expenses to Home Care Nurse Manager for approval.

PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL QUALITIES:

  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta is current.
  • Current CPR certification and First Aid
  • Current Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
  • Current Class 4 driver’s license.
  • Application of proper body mechanic principles
    • Able to sit, walk, transfer, lift, carry equipment and supplies.
    • Able to transfer clients (one/two-person, mechanical lift)
    • Able to position clients (bed, chair, wheelchair, etc.)
  • Able to function independently and effectively.
    • Have clear communication skills interpersonal skills to provide effective interaction.
    • Set priorities in the face of multiple demands.
  • Assumes responsibility to maintain or improve personal health and well-being.
  • Able to provide and receive constructive feedback from clients, colleagues and Supervisor.

SALARY RANGE: Salary Grid as established by UNA Collective Agreement.
