Intake Worker
FTE: Casual Permanent
PROGRAM: Lethbridge Wellness Shelter & Stabilization Unit (LWSSU)
REPORTING TO: Shelter Coordinator
SUMMARY OF WORK:
Under the direction of the Shelter Coordinator, the Intake Worker is responsible for the wellness and safety of Shelter guests, ensuring guests are safe, respected, feel welcomed, and call the right emergency personnel when required. The Intake Worker is also responsible for providing support to the interdisciplinary team where needed. The Intake Worker provides respectful and culturally-safe services in a safe and supportive environment, providing social connections and referrals for the clients as required. The Intake/Bin room worker is one of the first points of contact for all guests entering the LWSSU. The Intake Worker ensures a smooth transition into the shelter and ensures all Bin Room policies and best practices are followed on admission.
PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL QUALITIES:
- First Aid training is required, or you must be willing to acquire within 6 months of hiring; training may be provided.
- Naloxone/Narcan training is required, or you must be willing to acquire within 6 months of hiring; training may be provided.
- NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) Certification is required, or you must be willing to acquire within 6 months of hiring; training may be provided.
- A mature, approachable, and professional manner, with a high degree of initiative, sound judgment, and accountability, is considered an asset.
- Education as a Health Care Aide, Addictions and Mental Health, Health Sciences, or a related field is considered an asset.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information is preferred.
- Flexible and reliable with availability for rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends
- Personal experience in recovery from addiction challenges and the ability to draw upon wellness and recovery experiences when providing intentional peer support are considered assets.
- An understanding of appropriate client/worker boundaries and the ability to maintain professional relationships are preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues related to homelessness, unemployment, mental health, substance use, alcohol dependence, and harm reduction are considered assets.
- Experience supporting, supervising, and monitoring clients is preferred.
- The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment is considered an asset.
- Strong stress-management, time-management, and organizational skills are preferred.
- The physical and mental capacity to perform assigned duties and safely operate job-related equipment is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and the ability to maintain detailed and accurate records are considered assets.
SALARY RANGE:
- In accordance with the Blood Tribe Department of Health Inc. Salary Grid.
