SUMMARY OF WORK:  

The Housekeeping Worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for Shelter Guests, staff, and visitors. The position involves cleaning dormitory areas, common areas, washrooms, offices, and other facility spaces while following health, safety, and infectioncontrol procedures. The Housekeeper is also responsible for providing support to the interdisciplinary team where needed. The Housekeeper provides respectful and culturally safe services in a safe and supportive environment.

PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL QUALITIES:
  • Clean and sanitize dormitory areas, washrooms, showers, kitchen, offices, and common spaces.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect floors and surfaces.
  • Empty garbage and recycling bins and dispose of waste appropriately.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as door handles, tables, railings, and light switches.
  • Replenish soap, paper products, cleaning supplies, and other necessary items.
  • Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, damaged equipment, or sanitation concerns to the supervisor.
  • Safely use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment according to established procedures.
  • Help maintain organized and well-stocked housekeeping and supply areas.
  • Follow workplace health and safety, infection-prevention, privacy, and emergency procedures.
  • Valid First Aid Certification is required, or you must be willing to acquire within 6 months of hiring; training may be provided.
  • De-escalate challenging situations using appropriate communication and crisis-intervention techniques. NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) Certification is required, or you must be willing to acquire within 6 months of hiring; training may be provided.
  • Naloxone/Narcan training is required, or you must be willing to acquire within 6 months of hiring; training may be provided.
  • Treat all Shelter Guests with dignity, respect, compassion, and professionalism.
  • Work cooperatively with shelter staff and other service providers.
  • Perform other housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Flexible and reliable with availability for rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
SALARY RANGE:
  • In accordance with the Blood Tribe Department of Health Inc. Salary Grid.
