PROGRAM: Lethbridge Wellness Shelter and Stabilization Unit
REPORTING TO: CoordinatorSUMMARY OF WORK:
The Outreach/Security is responsible for providing outreach support to build rapport with unsheltered individuals, de-escalating and support during mental health or substance-related emergencies, helping clients in navigating social services and data documentation.
PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL QUALITIES:
- Education in Addictions and Mental Health, or other related is considered an asset.
- 2 to 3 years experience in a high risk environment: health care, low income, homeless shelters, etc.
- Personal experience in recovery from addiction challenge(s), and ability to draw upon
wellness and recovery in providing intentional peer support (asset). - Minimum 1 year experience in a Security Guard position (preferred)
- Valid Alberta security License (preferred/ training may be provided)
- Valid First Aid Certification (preferred/ training may be provided)
- Naloxone/Narcan Training
- NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) Certification
- Familiarity with community resources; such as addiction, mental health, income assistance, housing assistance and harm reduction.
- Profiecency in applying trauma-informed principles to every interaction.
- Sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds and systematic barriers affecting our client base.
- Energetic and self-directed, with effective time management and organizational skills including the ability to deal with several priorities at the same time
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed and accurate record
- Resiliency and stress tolerance and the ability to maintain composure, remain calm and focused when dealing with a high volume of volatile and stressful situations and unpredictable outdoor enviorments.
- The ability to make sound rational decisions based on information provided and employ critical thinking where information may not be clear.
- Strong strategically-focused analytical skills, good common sense; and capacity to provide leadership
- Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiating skills
- High morals, ethics and integrity.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to improve projects, programs and processes
SALARY RANGE:
- As per BTDH Salary Grid.
