SUMMARY OF WORK:  

The Blood Tribe Department of Health (BTDH) Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program is distinct yet directly connected to the national NIHB program that provides coverage to registered First Nations and recognized Inuit for a specified range of medically necessary items and services that are not covered by other plans and programs.

The Blood Tribe Department of Health Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our NIHB program which includes the Medical Clinics (Standoff & Levern) and laboratory services, the Mobile Medical Unit, Medical Transportation, and the Navigator services. This role requires collaborating with a wide range of interdisciplinary professionals and partners in support of creating a team atmosphere and ensuring that staff members are enabled to deliver the highest quality of services to the members of the Blood Tribe.

As a member of the BTDH Senior Management Team, the Director will ensure that organizational directives, fiscal realities, new initiatives and policies are clearly and effectively shared with front line staff. The Director will ensure smooth operations by effectively and appropriately implementing the BTDH strategic plans, initiatives, directives and policies.

PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL QUALITIES:
  • Graduate of a recognized school of nursing, social work or other related field at a Baccalaureate or Masters Level.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Exceptional negotiating skills.
  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory position.
  • Registration with professional body is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Blackfoot culture and language.
  • Ability to work with competing demands.
  • An independent self-starter.
  • Creative.
  • Ability to develop linkages with federal, provincial or territorial health agencies.
  • Create and maintain working relationships with local entities and departments.
  • Strong knowledge-base with all the Non-Insured Health Benefits categories.
  • Being well informed and updated on current issues and gaps with the Non-Insured Health Benefits program.
  • Excellent critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving skillset.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, oral and written skills.
SALARY RANGE:
  • In accordance with the Blood Tribe Department of Health Inc. Salary Grid.
